First Major Only A Matter Of Time For Johnson

It seems as though it must surely only be a matter of time before Dustin Johnson picks up his first major win. The 26-year-old has come close at the US Open and the PGA Championship last year and could already have two titles under his belt. The big hitting Johnson threw away a three-shot lead at last year’s US Open, with a final round 82 relegating him to tie for eighth.

Bad luck had a major part to play in his agonisingly close PGA Championship campaign. A ground club penalty saw Johnson’s play-off place taken away from him, but the American managed to shrug off the disappointment. Despite the pain of his unfortunate major campaign, Johnson still had plenty to be cheerful about last year, picking up two titles at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the BMW Championships.

Johnson will head to Augusta in good form and many will fancy the 26-year old to be among the main challengers next month at the Masters. There were plenty of positives for Johnson to take from his second place finish at the WGC-Cadillac Championship earlier this month. Despite relinquishing a two-shot lead to Nick Watney, Johnson showed plenty of quality throughout the week and once again showed his all-round game is where it needs to be at this stage in the season and anyone looking to bet on golf should remember this.

His record at Augusta is more solid than it is spectacular and the US Masters betting 2011 reflects this, but Johnson is perhaps want to succeed at this major more than any of the other three after growing up just around the corner.

“You know, winning this tournament, it means a lot, especially for me because now I get to play in Augusta, and it’s always been a dream for me to get to go there, and I’m very excited about that, especially only being about 45 minutes from where I grew up, so I couldn’t be more happy,” he said.

Johnson will be determined to better his record in the opening major of the year, his two previous appearances only resulting in finishes of tied 30th and 38th and this season could well be his time to dramatically improve his Masters CV.
